This dictionary provides OFFLINE access to the English-Swahili and Swahili-English content of kamusi.org. It contains 32,000 translation pairs. Search quickly in either direction, without a network connection! Kamusi hii ni toleo ya kamusi.org kutumia nje ya mtandao, kupitia Kiingereza-Kiswahili na Kiswahili-Kiingereza. Ina majozi 32,000. Tafuta chapuchapu lugha hadi lugha, bila kuunga na mtandao! The database is more than 26MB, and will be downloaded when you run the application the first time. We recommend downloading with a Wi-Fi connection. Updates to the database will be available periodically. Word spelling, using Text-To-Speech module. 6. Context word search – click any word in translation article and search for it’s translation. This app contains advertising.

Very nice dictionary

Easy to use, better dictionary with more words than usually found online.

Great app! Remove the flags.

The update is great, but the added flags next to the words is VERY distracting. It really detracts from the usefulness. Not to mention its misleading since Swahili is spoken across several countries in East Africa. And it is more widely spoken in a Tanzania anyway. But again, love the app, hate the new flags. PLEASE MAKE IT JUST AN OPTION. Asante.

Just what I was looking for.

This is a very simple app that just looks up words in its local database and displays the results. What makes it great is that its database is fairly verbose, with several entries for each word and usage examples for many cases. For a beginning Swahili speaker like myself, these usage examples are far more valuable than the terse entries in my paper dictionary. To earn 5 stars from me, the developer only needs to get a native Swahili speaker to wander through the database and add even more example usage. Also, each noun has the noun class given as an integer code - this should be converted to something readable, like KiVi or JiMa.

I downloaded this app today and its great - no Internet connection necessary, and there are tons of different meanings listed. Also, you dont have to choose Swahili/English, it just pops up as youre typing. Ads are a bit annoying, but apparently you can purchase an ad-free version.

App is constantly crashing

This is a wonderful app and one that I use daily, but since updating to iOS 8 the app is constantly crashing. I have a suspicion it is caused by using the app when Cellular Data and Wi-Fi are both turned off due to the app trying to refresh the advertisements and not being able to. This was not an issue when I used the app on iOS 7. Nevertheless the app has become unusable because it crashes every time I click on a word. Please provide a fix for this bug. Its a 5-star app when it works.
