MacDesktop,
Works great in ’07 iMac

My old 2007 iMac runs great with it and 4Gb of RAM. I don’t know if it ever ran this smoothly before. No glitches whatsoever with the instal other than it took 5 hours with our crappy internet service.

The ugliest and useles OS X

When, during the el capitan launch, the most important thing to mention is the mouse pointer getting bigger it’s clear that the OS is absolutely rubbish and their devs just don’t care anymore. The design is meh. they tried to reinvent the wheel and the call it flat design, whatever that is! The result - everything seems washed out and there is no visible improvement. Connecting to an external Apple monitor, the fonts seem pixelated, even with the smooth font option on. The dock design is ugly and the old one seem to better differentiate the app icons. Went back to an old machine with Mavericks and man that design still looks good, better than the current. The OS hangs for me - like something is running awry on main thread - good job, Apple developers! When watching a movie on iTunes, trying to move back and forth by clicking on the progress bar makes the dock pop up on top the movie. The transparency is something that is consuming a lot of energy. Switching it off vastly improved my battery life. Why do Apple thinks is a good idea to waste energy, didn’t they like to show off that they care about environment? Overall is a bad experience and it seems to me that Apple needs to a new direction.

Crashing!

Ever since I have updated my computer to El Capitan, my computer has constantly crashed and shut down. There have not been any other application or downloads that I have that are causing this and my roomate is experiencing the exact same issues as well. Do not update your computer to this software until all of these problems have been resolved. It makes productivity very slow and difficult for school.

Incompatible with Mac CS5 and Win 7, Java issues

This is a 2015 macbook pro running Win 7 with a very old version of java required for access to FDA sites (yes, I have to fight off java’s updates everytime I log on). I also have Adobe CS5 package which requires a legacy java installation. Unable to install this legacy java as the java installation see the java for Win 7. Bottom line is that I had to unstall El Capitan via my restore copy. Let me know when the legacy jave installation function on El Capitan is improved so it doesn’t see the Win version.

It won’t even download

So I’m having trouble with my macbook pro - it’s only about 2 years old and the cursor keeps freezing up. All I can do is force a shutdown, as I suddenly am unable to click or type anything. So I figured I should update my Yosemite to El Capitan. But lo! I can’t even get the app to download. Sigh.

So far, so good

I wanted to give the El Capitan upgrade 4.5 stars because I had an issue with Safari immediately after the installation was complete. Safari kept freezing as soon as I tried to visit any website. I looked up the issue and saw that it could be resolved by deselecting “Safari Suggestions” in the “Smart Search Field” portion under the Search tab in the Preferences section. The freezing immediately stopped and since then I’ve had no issues, which is why I opted for 5 stars instead of 4. To give background on my Mac, I have a 15” Macbook Pro (mid-2012), 4GB Memory. I bought it in December 2012. I’d never upgraded from my original Lion 10.7.5 OS. Up until around July 2015 it ran beautifully, but then I started noticing that it would load media-heavy websites slower than usual and I’d see the spinning wheel more and more. Plus I could no longer upgrade Safari and Youtube, and Twitter defaulted me to some weird text version of the site. I read that upgrading the OS would likely solve these issues, but I saw so many negative reviews that I was scared to do it. Finally, I had enough of it being sluggish and took a chance. Aside from the issue I mentioned above, I’m thrilled with the upgrade! It runs like it did when I first purchased it with no issues on media-heavy sites. I’m still getting used to the features so I can’t report on all the perks, but so far I feel that I’ve lost nothing and gained a computer that runs like new again, which was my primary goal. Everything (USB ports, apps, etc) work like before and all of my files (and even my passwords saved on various websites) were saved (I did back up my files prior to upgrading, just in case). As someone else mentioned, maybe I got lucky. But I wanted to add my 2 cents because it was the recent positive reviews that encouraged me to give it a try. So far, I couldn’t be happier that I did.
