This app looks like the original iBooks, with a wooden bookshelf. The interface is intuitive and well laid out, It comes with a free sample comic book, so that you can see how it works. And enjoy the comics, too! Additional samples are $1.99 for a 25-page book. Is that a good deal? Maybe, maybe not. (See postscript.) But theres a big problem--Charlie and most of the the gang have an odd, glaring, pink skin tone. The hue is just plain wrong and its distracting, even interfering with the pleasure (yes, its that strange!). Still, these are the wonderful Schulz comic strips, with all of his gentle, comforting insights and stories, and so one can still enjoy them, just not quite as much! Furthermore, it seems that these are NOT just original Peanuts strips. Many of the additional comics that you have to pay for are described as: "new stories", "new, original comic books", and "all new stories mixed in with classic Schulz original Sunday strips". Even the free sampler lists such items as "Woodstocks New Nest" with "Story and pencils by Vicki Scott"! In any event, you can download it and try it for free, so see what you think yourself! ---------- P.S. I wasnt going to comment on the cost, figuring it would involve too many calculations. However, I couldnt resist! Weve bought many a real paperback Peanuts collection, in all sorts of shapes and sizes-- and just love them. The typical one costs around $10 for 160 pages (e.g., "Its a Dogs Life, Snoopy!" at that A-store). Sounds similar in pricing (16 pages per $1 vs. 12 pages) but then one realizes that the paperbacks typically come with 4 strips per page, not just one! In other words, the typical electronic Peanuts collection here costs 4x as much as the real thing! And, may include other than original Peanuts strips! Adding insult to injury, a larger iPad comic of "Happiness is a Warm Blanket" costs $9, yet has only 96 pages-- so, its even more costly than the mini-electronic collections! It also seems they doubled the price of the samplers--$1 for 25 pages of strips would make this much more attractive and tempting! Now, is that worth it to have electronic, iPad versions? Well, if you have a family with several Peanuts readers, getting several of the paperbacks could work much better--more than one person could read at a time, they are easier to read in bed, in the yard, at the shore, etc. Also, it means no competing over the iPad! OTOH, if everyone has an i-device in the family, then theres less of a problem, save for the sand, the dropping out of bed, having to pack and protect it, etc. Go pulp!
