Description

Updated for Ventura and Apple Silicon Macs.

Reading Assistant is a Mac app designed to help people, especially those with dyslexia, read faster, by having the computer read text aloud.

Simply select text, copy it to your clipboard, and press play.

The variable speed control ranges from 1 to 1,000 words per minute. Users can quickly customize this speed while listening. And with the graph view, past reading speeds are charted out so that users can track their progress.

By tracking along with the text being read, people with dyslexia can learn to sight read words and phrases instead of syllables. Over time, this can allow them to read much faster than before, without the help of a computer.

Feedback is welcomed.

very limited voice selection

this app has two major problems

1) copying text is annoying step to take before playback. You should just have to highlight the text and press play

2) you can only pick between 3 low quality system voices.

Crashes a lot, and why are there only three voices?

Aside from how often it crashes, this app is annoying because it won't access Ava or Samantha or any of the other voices that it could get 'for free' from the speech API in Mac OS.

Great for visually impared or dyslexia!

Worked great on night one but the next morning it wouldn't even open
