This is finally a replacement for Bento that I have been looking for! Yea!! And actually, it's simpler than Bento, but has both a form and a spreadsheet layout which is all I need. Please don't quit on me like Bento did!
Maybe a little too simple
I was looking for an inexpensive database, and Steward seems to be the closest to what I need. The functionality could use a bit of a boost, though. Two examples are: (1) having a way to move records between tables and (2) allowing the user to backup tables to specific folders and backing up on demand. Maybe these operations can be performed in the current version, but I haven't yet figured out how to do it. I wrote to the devs to ask, but there has been no reply yet. Also (and this is this a third example), the video documentation is good for getting started, but it falls well short of being instructive on many of the operations in this DB. True, it is very simple, and the user can figure out some of this stuff, but a little more documentation can do a lot of good. They should look at the user documentation for Banktivity to see how good it can be. For now, I will stick with Steward, because I had to buy it to try it (more than 5 records) and the others are even worse.
Hopeful!
I was really rooting for this app to succeed. It really astounds me why Database Apps and the like are in such short supply! I just don't understand it. There is very little competition in the genre of lightweight personal database applications. IT is wide open.
