LICK CATEGORIES
Alternate picking: Alternating down and up pick strokes can result in blazing shred guitar licks.
Sweep picking: Using consecutive up or down picks you can play frighteningly fast licks and arppegios. Sweep picking was popularised by players such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker and Frank Gambale.
Legato and tapping: Mix up hammer ons, pull offs, slides and tapping for a range of fast fluid lines. Players like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani both feature legato licks in their playing.
Classic licks: Classic agressive metal licks in stlyle of bands such as Black Sabbath, Motorhead and Iron Maiden.
