The purpose of this app is to provide information about the research use of leftover bloodspots after newborn screening is completed. The app is designed to accompany informed consent. Every state health department has different policies regarding the retention and use of leftover bloodspots, and this app provides the general information in order for an individuals to make an informed decision that can support different health departments policies. The information contained in the app was tested in a randomized control trial in Michigan, with results indicating that the app significantly improved knowledge and participants were significantly more satisfied with the consent process compared to the standard consent process.
