Description
Palermo is one of the Italian most ancient towns. It owns inside architectures and stiles left by the various foreign dominations that it has suffered. It was founded like port-city by Phoenicians in 734 B.C. Palermo owns Arab-Normans, Jewish, Medievals, Renaissences, Baroques, Art Decò, buildings. This is one of the reasons why it is one of the towns candidated to be the European Capital of Culture. But the town is not only this. It has changed its face because of the economic progress of the Twentieth Century. The speculation of the construction industry altered its characteristics. So Its possible to see near to a Seventeenth Century dome a Fascist building or one of the 50th or 60th, and they do not always fit together in the best way. In the meanwhile new urban areas have grown up and developed at the periphery of the city.
