Looking for a fresh and engaging way to explore Lantau Island in Hong Kong? This app comes from an educational project which funded by Lantau Conservation Fund invites you to step into the coastal defense facilities during Ming and Qing dynasties, where history, landscape, military facilities and digital technology come together to create an immersive learning experience.
Lantau Island was once a crucial frontline in protecting the southern coast of China. Through this app, you can discover how battalion city, forts, battery, and military outposts formed a defensive network against piracy and other maritime threats. Key features include:
• Rich multimedia content, including photos, video, animations, voices and game etc., that make complex history easy to understand
• Suggested guided routes in Tung Chung and Fan Lau, ideal for self-guided tours, hiking trips, photography activities and educational outings
• Take on the role of a naval commander of the Qing dynasty or pirate leader in mini-game, making pivotal historical decisions
• AR cameras allow you to transform into a general or soldier of Ming or Qing dynasty, or stand alongside coastal defense facilities at that moment, creating timeless moments across eras
• Audio guides provide on-site storytelling, allowing you to learn while walking through coastal defense facilities, route for defense, and temple
• Various curated educational resources designed for classroom use, project learning, and independent study
This app transforms cultural and historical studies into a user-friendly digital experience. It bridges the gap between academic knowledge and public understanding, making heritage accessible to everyone.
