Description

If you are planning a trip along the Chesapeake and Ohio Towpath, then dont leave without your C&O Companion. The information found on the popular BikeWashington.org canal website is now available in an app. Simply sync and go. No data connection required when you are on the path. While on the towpath, the C&O Companion will display your current location, and will help you find amenities along the way. It also has self-contained maps that do not require a data connection. In the event of an emergency, the C&O Companion will help identify your location, and the quickest way to reach help. Proceeds support the C&O Canal Trust Fund. ======================================= Troubleshooting: Less than 1-in-500 users have reported one of these problems with the application: a) Wont report location. If your app is stuck on "Finding Location" (and you are not in airplane mode), then this generally means that you did not allow the C&O Companion access to your current location. (A dialog box will ask your permission during first launch). This is easy to fix. Just open the "Settings" application (this app came with your device; it has the gray "Gears" icon) and look for "Location Services". Ensure that Location Services is ON, and that is has been enabled for the C&O Companion application. b) Sync never completes. Just one person reported that after pressing the Sync button, the download never completed. This is most likely due to a corrupted database. We fixed this by simply deleting the app and then using the iTunes application to reinstall the app from iCloud (no additional change is incurred for re-install). This procedure wipes out the database so you can start over fresh.

Pretty awesome app! I will never bike on the towpath without it!

Great

A great app written by someone with an apparent knowledge of what a biker really needs on the C & O Canal.

Invaluable!

Absolutely great app for riding the trail. Just two minor suggestions: Allow the user to manually locate themselves on the path instead of using GPS. The sync option is great for low service, but on our long trip I had my phone in airplane mode most of the way do it wouldnt burn through the battery trying to contact far away cell towers. This meant that I had no GPS lock, and made navigation through the app a bit less convenient. Summary information from yelp would be helpful in finding food stops, and perhaps add link outs to the full we page. Thanks for putting this together!

Invaluable Tool

I downloaded this app before a tour on the C&O towpath. It came in very handy for locating campsites and planning out our days. I would highly recommend it to anybody looking to bike the C&O.

If you spend time on the canal, get this app. It is worth having the contact number on you alone. The list of real time canal access points is very useful. Suggestion: It would be great to track where you have been on past trips - link photos, dates push pins, etc. Thanks for one of my favorite apps!

Excellent resource

Really good information in a convenient format. I do wish it listed shower facilities for those planning to stay at H/B campsites.

Great app -- highly recommend it to anyone riding the C&O towpath. Invaluable for figuring out whats nearby and determining H/B campsites on the fly. Even though cell coverage is spotty along parts of the C&O, my network was always available, making this app worth the money. Thanks to whoever put this app together!
