DenAlt is an iPhone/iPodTouch app which calculates the density altitude for inputs of actual altitude, air temperature, altimeter setting (atmospheric pressure), and dew point. The density altitude is a conceptual artifice and is the indicated altitude corrected for non-standard temperature and pressure. Pilots use the density altitude as a convenient measure of air density. Air density in turn determines aircraft performance. As the air density decreases so does aircraft performance. All pilots are taught about the effects of density altitude and gain some degree of intuition which is helpful. Nevertheless the density altitude is intended to be used in a quantitative manner. The traditional way involves the use of analog charts or analog circular slide rule type of calculators. These methods are not particularly convenient and the practical result is that most pilots do not properly take account of the decrease in aircraft performance. This app makes the inclusion of density altitude effects fast, accurate, and convenient. Additionally the real world appreciation of a significant difference between an indicated altitude and the corresponding density altitude is enhanced by the graphical presentation of results. Aviators must have App

All aviators know that density alt is very important to prevent accidents and therefore no pilot should be flying without using this very good app. Use it and survive!!!!

The units cant be changed, despite displaying the option to do so. Changing units doesnt work.

Does what it says it will in meters or feet, millibars or inches, celsius or farenheit -- you choose! I just wish I could use it in landscape on my iPad.
