The 13th European Congress on Digital Pathology (ECDP 2016) will be held in Berlin, Germany, from May, 25 – 28, 2016. Digital pathology, originally an offshoot of telepathology is advancing to incorporate modern medicine with systems science, image processing, business process modelling and knowledge management. Methodological changes in microscopic techniques, imaging, molecular pathology, genetics and bioinformatics are drivers of digital pathology. The fascinating program of the ECDP 2014 in Paris with insights in several new technologies will find its continuum in Berlin. With respect to rate of technical developments during the past years, time is right for an overview of potentials of scanning technology and their applicability in daily practice.
