Description
FixINR is the implementation of two different algorithms for estimating the appropriate initial dose of warfarin in oral anticoagulation therapy.
The appropriate initial dose is difficult to establish due to the individual genetic variability and many other factors including drug interactions, alcohol, food intake etc.
The pharmacogenetic algorithm takes into consideration the polymorphisms in two distinct genes, VKORC1 (the vitamin K epoxide reductase complex subunit 1) and CYP2C9 (the cytochrome P450 2C9).
The clinical algorithm takes into consideration only age, weight, height, ethnic group and some drug interactions.
