GitStatX at Mac App Store analyse

Es ist vielleicht nicht die schönste Applikation. Aber für meinen Zweck - schnell mal ein paar Statistik-Plots - zur erstellen, ohne lange wegen einer "Handinstallation" rummuckeln zu müssen, hat es mir extrem geholfen. Wenn man hohe optische Anforderung und viel konfigurieren will, für den ist diese App falsch.

Diese rudimentäre Anwendung ist anscheinend ein Wrapper um das Rubygem "GitStats". Die Unterschiede zum Gem sind vor allem, dass die Ausgabe hier merklich hässlicher ist (urgs, mintgrün?!) und die Unter-Ansichten jeweils in einem Dokument zusammengefasst wurden (mehr Scrollen, weniger Klicken). Außerdem fällt auf, dass die Statistik über Binär- gegenüber Textdateien fehlt. Die Darstellung hat verschiedene Macken, von herumfliegenden Icons über den fehlenden Refresh nach der Generierung des Berichtes bis zu den nicht an kleine Fenster angepassten HTML-Dokumenten. Fazit: Es ist ein netter kleiner Prototyp, keine ausgereifte Anwendung, wie man sie im AppStore erwarten würde. Der Mehrwert gegenüber dem Gem ist im Moment erstmal gering, aber das kann ja noch werden. Vllt. wird der Code ja mal Open Source und jemand baut das noch weiter aus.

Just point the app to a git repo and you get a full report with graphics of multiple parameters over time. Can generate an HTML report to export online. I could have produce a similar report by installing the proper tools but for the price, it is very well worth the time saved. I recommend.

Very nice App, it shows a lot of charts with interesting data from your repo. It would be better if it would give more controls to users to change the starting parameters or to make filters, but at this price, it’s worth it!

This generates a handy report for any repo showing stats like top authors, amount of activity, # of lines of code, and more. Though it works with any Git repository, I find it especially useful with Github. When I’m deciding to use a particular library, or contributing to a project, it’s good to have an overview of how active the project is, how many authors there are, who the main authors are, and so on. Some of this info can be gleaned from Github itself, but not in such a convenient form. The app would be even better if it could recognize Github repos, and show additional stats like a list of forks and users who starred the repo; or reports for a given user.
