Description
The Lean Observer tool supports structured observation of frontline healthcare worker activities. Results can be used to identify unnecessary process variation or waste. Pre- and post-assessments can provide information on process changes resulting from implementation of changes for selected work processes. The application allows activities performed by a worker to be quickly captured in a standardized way that supports subsequent analysis of the collected information such as personnel costs for various payment reform opportunities.
The Lean Observer application was created at the Institute for "Healthcare Leadership at Intermountain Healthcare" based on Lean principles specifically for use in health care delivery settings. However, Lean Observer can be used in any setting where direct observation of front-line workers may be useful.
