This program is designed for health care professionals, students, and anyone interested in visualizing and learning about the complex neuroanatomy of the brain stem.

The 3D features allow users to visualize the external morphology of the brain stem as well as the cranial nerve fibers and nuclei that create the complex internal anatomy of the brain stem. Learning the intricate inter-relationships between the anatomic structures is greatly enhanced by the ability to view all the internal morphologic components at once or to select and highlight individual components while controlling the opacity/transparency of other anatomic structures.

A labeling feature is available that identifies the external morphology and cranial nerves associated with the brain stem.

A bonus feature is the ability to visualize the brain stem nuclei associated with the functions of pain and temperature, light touch and pressure, proprioception, vibration and discriminative touch as well as taste, hearing and balance. In addition to the 3D visualization capabilities, users can access text information that describes the anatomic components of the brain stem.

The program features a true 3D interactive experience: The user can rotate, pan, and zoom the camera around the brain stem anatomy in three dimensions.

Very cool

Very cool, but it would be better if I was able to click on a structure and the name would pop up, instead of always having to click the name first then the structure being highlighted., but very detailed.. external structure labelling would also help

Poor functionality, contains ERRORS

I purchased this app hoping it would be a good review for brainstem nuclei and the associated cranial nerves. I was wrong. Before writing this review I emailed my concerns to the creators and requested a refund. I did not receive a response. --- In short the app is a nice concept and may have potential, however clunky function and ERRONEOUS content makes it completely USELESS. ERRORS: 1. Upon first starting the app I noted several structures labeled incorrectly (fasciculus gracilis (arrown pointed to the fasciculus cuneatus), fasciculus cuneatus (arrow points to the lateral funiculus), and lateral funiculus label didnt appear anywhere. 2. I read several annotation for the cranial nerves and again found errors (e.g. the abducens nucleus does more than project to lateral rectus muscle; half of the projects cross the midline and ascend (as part of the MLF) to the oculomotor nerve where they synapse on medial rectus motor neurons; very important for the coordiantion of lateral eye movements!). 3. Oculomotor nucleus also innervates the levator palpebrae muscle. 4. Spinal nucleus of V: This is NOT only a contralateral projecting tract; also projects to both ipsilateral (painand temp, but not tactile sensation) and contralateral medullary reticular formation. (Note: There are additional errors) LIMITED FUNCTIONALITY: 2. Labels in white font are hard to read due to the light gray background on the upper half. 3. Arrows for labels are hard to follow and have awkward shading 4. Windows cannot be resized 5. Cannot compare the slices with the 3D image at the same time (etc., I could go on) ~ Ph.D., Neuroscience

MMMMhhhmmmm!

Loma Linda U. rocks! Thanks for this App. I know you got a bad review from someone and then you went and fixed stuff. Thanks for listening! This app puts everything into perspective. Im at CSU-Sacramento taking neuroanatomy right now and this is helping a lot. I do wish it had the cerebrum too, but that wasnt what was being sold. So far this is the most helpful app/software Ive found. Great job! Keep up the good work!

Very limited functionality considering the price

If this app were more reasonably priced (perhaps $4), I wouldn’t be so dissapointed with how limited the information and controls are. You can’t click on any of the objects so there’s very little interactivity. I read the one critical review of this app and still bought it in hopes that it would be better; I strongly suggest you save your money. Given that the app hasn’t had any updates for three years, it’s fair to say the author doesn’t plan on adding any features or enhancing the UI. This is where is could use some work. I’m a med student and used this for my neuro course. After covering most of brain stem for one or two weeks, you won’t need to review this information anymore. So $20 is a lot to pay for an app you might only use for a week or two. Unfortunately, I haven’t found another 3D app that I can recommend instead of this. However, you can learn most of this information from books and images online.
