It is the Sicilian monument most indicative of the magic that happens when cultures put aside their differences and create instead of destroy. This small 32-meter-long church was built in 1132, and it exhibits the extraordinary convergence of Muslim and Byzantine stylistic influences. Interestingly enough, King Roger II, ruler of the time, was known for celebrating diversity in his court.
