Description

iVPN is an application that makes use of the standards based PPTP and L2TP VPN server installed with Mac OS X. This VPN server is usually only available on Mac OS X Server and configured through the Server Admin application. iVPN makes it possible to use the same server utility on the client version of Mac OS X. All you have to do to set it up is to enter the user name and password that you want your VPN clients to use, the IP address range you want to give to your clients and then click start server. iVPN will handle all the other settings and start the VPN server. *************** IMPORTANT *************** Please note that this version does not contain all the same features of iVPN 7 available from the MacServe website. Also, in order to set up the VPN server, this version requires you to perform manual tasks using Terminal. *********************************************

Service needs to be restarted regularly or it stops working

Guisumou · 9 years ago · v6.4.1

Every so often you have to turn the VPN off and then on again because it stopped working. This happens at least once a week, which makes it very annoying. Often when you need your VPN to be running it just isn’t. This app is not worth the money until this has been fixed.

Doesn’t Worth It!

Soheil Jadidian · 9 years ago · v6.4.1

The PPTP on this thing used to work but PPTP isn’t supported in iOS 10 and macOS Sierra anymore, setting up L2TP is a pain and I couln’t get it to work, although I setup port forwardings, created users etc. It also doesn’t support any other protocols such as IKEv2. Every time you want to start or stop the server it asks you to copy paste a script in the terminal, such amateur app doesn’t worth the money. I’d suggest using macOS Server (for $20) which has built in support for VPN instead of iVPN.

This is an old version that no longer works.

Not Working Now

mrdeming · 9 years ago · v6.4.1

It now longer works with newer versions of Mac. I feel I just bought this not long ago and it is already no longer supported by the developer. I feel disappointed because I paid for this and no updates have been provided beyond the version of OS. We know the nature of OS X and it is constantly updating to our benefit. I think developers should be required to provide support for at least a few future versions of Mac otherwise this is a scam. Buy the product, works for a while, new OS update, the program no longer works. I believe refund is due.

works, but not as expected

hodger · 13 years ago

Working, but more work than expected, and misleading. Site version and app store version are way off, 6.4 from the store, 7.0.3 on the site. On the site, there are screenshots showing features, and a link for "Download on the Mac App Store" but whats on the app store is not whats shown on the screen shots. The site claims "…tunnel for all your internet traffic," but this app does not really do everything to make that possible. You need to create a NAT situation on your own, and the documentation doesnt even mention that fact, or any recommended steps to accommodate. Not shown on the screen shots are the steps for copying and pasting terminal commands that are necessary for starting and stopping the server. Dont expect your support e-mails to be answered. Im not sorry I made the purchase, but I expected better.
