Launched in 1891, the Kuranda Scenic Railway is a testament to endurance and ingenuity, built by up to 1500 men over treacherous conditions. Today, its historic carriages are hauled by vibrant 1720-class locomotives, showcasing the Buda-dji story from the Traditional Owners of the Country, the Djabugay Bama.
Arriving or departing from Ngunbay (Kuranda), meaning ‘place of the platypus,’ your journey will consist of 15 hand-built tunnels and more than 55 bridges, while you head deep into one of the world's oldest rainforests. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking scenery, waterfalls, and dramatic ravines that make every glance a moment to remember – and photograph!
