Simple and efficient, but a lake of essential functions like re-opening previously opened document, or the possibility to open any file, without the need to declare its extension in preferences.
Hohe CPU-Last, für große Logs nicht geeignet
Die Bedienung mutet etwas komisch an. Bevor man eine Log-Datei öffnen kann, muss man in den Preferences erst einen Filter für die Datei-Erweiterung erstellen. Öffnen per Drag and Drop geht übrigens nicht. Sobald man eine Datei öffnet schnellt die CPU-Last auf 100 % an und geht erst wieder signifikant zurück wenn man die Datei wieder schließt. Abschalten des tail-Modus ändert daran nichts. Viele Tätigkeiten werden scheinbar im GUI-Thread durchgeführt. Jedenfalls sieht man den „Beachball“ bei der Suche, aber auch bei Scrollen. Besonders wenn das Log groß ist, sind die Wartezeiten bemerkenswert (Getestet mit einer 400MB-Logdatei). Insgesamt als Tool, das man neben her laufen läßt, um Log-Einträge zu verfolgen, untauglich.
Bad logger
It’s impossible to work with this logger. There are a lot of bugs with «Blocker» priority : neither glassfish3 logs, no jboss as 7 one were scrolled auto.
Decent program
Works well, quite a step up from Console for the price. It’s missing regex support and “exclusive filter” (ie only show lines matching filters I’ve selected), but those are minor anoyances at this point.
Is ok unless you work with Tomcat
If you have a log file that is not currently being written to or locked you can read the log, even if you set the file extension to .out you still can’t select the catalina.out file that is being generated real time. Try to get support and you get a wordpress blog with no email for support.
Well worth the investment
This software works exactly as described. It is able to open huge log files that other text editors have trouble with. I was able to open and work with 3 different mail log files, all of which were over 2GB.
Just needs a bit more work
If only there were a way to see entire text of long log entries this would be a very useful tool. As is I have to open up the log file in a text editor or other logging tool inorder to see the whole message.
