The Magnetic Data app gives you the ability to inspect and capture the iPhone 3GS / iPad magnetic field data to facilitate learning, exploration, experimentation, and analysis. The iPhone 3GS / iPad contains a 3-axis electronic compass. The hardware integrates Hall-effect magnetic sensors for detecting geomagnetism in the X-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis. The x, y, and z magnetic data returned are measured in micro-teslas. The tesla is the standard unit of magnetic flux density. The Magnetic Data app catures: * The x, y, and z magnetic field readings in micro-teslas. * Computes the resulting magnetic field data The Info screen presents the data in real-time. The Capture screen allows you to specify a capture rate (example 30 hertz), and the data will be captured at that rate, and stored in a file in the Flash file system. The app contains a built-in web server allowing you to download the data via wi-fi from your iPhone to a computer in a CSV file for further analysis. Multiple capture files can be created and managed. The data capture length is only limited by the free space on your iPhone.
