Description

Play the award-winning learning game that puts the action in fraction! * Excellence in Design Award - Childrens Technology Review * * Cooney Center at Sesame Street Workshop-Mobile Learning Prize Finalist * Developed at the Stanford School of Education, Motion Math HD follows a star that has fallen from space, and must bound back up, up, up to its home in the stars. Moving fractions to their correct place on the number line is the only way to return. By playing Motion Math, learners improve their ability to perceive and estimate fractions in multiple forms. ---------- PARENTS APPRECIATE IT “All I can say is, WOW!…Our 3rd grader said he “wished he could do this for math every day.” Our 5th grader agreed.” - Ashley Allain, HyperHomeSchool “My 7-year-old daughter played Motion Math totally absorbed for five minutes and then came back, very focused on moving faster through the game. The day before school started, I asked her what she wanted to learn and she said “Fractions! Because they are fun.” Thank you, Motion Math!” – Leigh Anne Gilbert KIDS LOVE IT “Dude, that’s a good game! There’s a lot of variety in the math...it’s so addicting.” – Kyle, 14 EXPERTS RESPECT IT “Dynamic...you move your way toward a better understanding of numerical relationships, one bounce at a time. 4.5 stars.” – Warren Buckleitner, Children’s Technology Review "Motion Math provides a much-needed experience to bring the body more fully into mathematics learning." – Roy Pea, David Jacks Professor of Learning Sciences, Stanford University ---------- OVERVIEW Loved by children as young as 7 and as old at 17 (and adults too!), Motion Math gives learners a physical experience of the number line and an intuitive feeling for fractions. Fractions are a notoriously difficult area and if a learner never gains a gut sense for them, it can impede progress in more advanced forms of math. One reason fractions are tough is that they can be written in so many different ways! Motion Math helps learners perceive and estimate many representations -- numerator over denominator (1/2), percents (50%), decimals (.5), and even pie charts. Motion Math was inspired by embodied cognition, research suggesting that connecting ones body to abstract concepts can deepen understanding. By estimating each problem with its distance on the number line, learners can develop a fast, accurate perception of fractions. ---------- ENGAGING PLAY The Motion Math game follows a star trying to return to its home in a far-away galaxy. Moving up through different levels motivates a player to keep playing and keep learning, while bonus levels practice an important variation on the number line theme - is one fraction more or less than another? Progress stars, sound and star effects, and exclamations (“Yes!” “Perfect!”) reward a player for solving problems. ---------- PROBLEM HINTS If a player is having trouble, increasingly helpful hints (what educators call "scaffolding”) guide him or her to the correct place on the number line. - First, a directional arrow is shown. - Next, tick marks show the fraction’s denominator. - Third, similar fractions are shown for comparison. - Lastly, in early levels, a vertical arrow shows exactly where to go. ---------- ADDITIONAL FEATURES - Intro level shows player how to tilt to control the star. - Later levels practice improper fractions and negative decimals. - Beginner, medium, and expert modes for different learners. ---------- CAN YOU MAKE IT PAST SATURN? 意欲的な作品です

TeddyKit · 15 years ago · v1.0.3

Good tilt game

Great value for the money. Pretty graphics. I recommend this app if your kid is doing any fractions in school.

I bought this game for my daughter because she was struggling to master fractions but loves games and challenges. She had Fun and didnt even realize she was learning. I hope the creators update with a pause/resume and then they have my five stars..

My kids love this!

ApplePhanatic · 15 years ago

Cool game for teaching fractions, number lines, etc. Apparently fun for both Elementary and Junior High ages. My kids have taken a shine to it...it might be addictive like Tetris was for us Generation Xers.

Surprisingly challenging

Thegamecoach · 15 years ago

This is a great game that seems to span several age groups. I found myself getting a refresher course on my fractions all while staying engaged level after level. Highly recommend!

Great value!
