Description
Plates and Shells is an App that offers the ability to compute various quantities (deflections, moments, shears, etc.) from several plate/shell configurations. The mechanics problems in this App are those routinely encountered by the author in consulting engineering work. The computations are taken from theoretical solutions (elementary and/or exact), and are not approximations. As the formulas for plate/shell theory are quite complicated given the presence of Fourier Series expansions, this App has compiled the necessary mathematics into a single user-friendly program.
Included shapes/loads (different computable quantities are available for different geometries and shapes):
- Rectangular/square plates (Uniform, Hydrostatic Loading)
- Circular Plates (Uniform, Point loads)
- Pressure Vessels (Internal pressure)
- Cylindrical Tank (Fluid)
This program should never be used as a design tool, only as a guide, and for informational purposes only. There is no substitute for a Professional Engineer, and one must always be consulted.
