Description

** PREVIOUS TOP 10 PAID EDUCATION and APP WINNER Apps For All Challenge 2014 ** Positive Penguins app is a resilience-building app for all children. The app has a simple 5-minute guided meditation for children to learn to sit, relax and let go of the thoughts as they come into their heads. There is also a strategy for children to understand that an event or situation happened that created an emotion in them - this emotion is not right or wrong, rather information – once they understand this and can examine the thoughts or stories they are telling themselves about situations they can then challenge the stories they tell themselves and help problem solve situations. We may not choose our initial emotional response to an event, but we do choose the thoughts and stories we tell ourselves and we do choose our behaviour. The app is designed to help children understand why they feel a certain feeling and behave in productive way. The app has full sound and also text and ability to record responses rather than type if preferred. There is a game mode just for some fun. This resilience strategy is based on the idea that negative thoughts or the negative stories we tell ourselves are not wrong - but sometimes they are not true. Kids need to learn to catch the negative thinking that is stressful, challenge the thinking and if needed change their thinking to be more optimistic and less anxious. This strategy is great for adults too. The four positive penguins take you on an interactive journey to help you understand that feelings arise from your thinking and if you challenge your negative thoughts successfully you may be able to see things in a more realistic and even optimistic way. Waste of money

Do not buy this. I thought it would help my child learn emotion while playing a fun game. The game has nothing to do learning emotions it is just a penguin throwing snowballs at fish. There is no learning emotions involved.

Not child-friendly

To-doer · 12 years ago · v1.1

While the premise of this app is encouraging, the implementation I found flawed. The child is asked to select their current mood, and then taken through some steps to explore the foundation for the feeling. What didnt work for me was the question and answer format. The child is asked about some aspect of their feeling and a keyboard appears for them to type in their analysis. I have an 8 year-old and there is no way a child will have the interest, patience or typing skills to respond; I found it a tedious format and I type well. As a footnote, I couldnt get it to load on an iPod 4Gen. Worked fine on an iPhone5.

Great app!

I find this to be a great tool to use with kids! It is step by step and easy for them to use, and I get an emailed copy for my file/documentation to revisit with them as needed.

Cute way to help your child

Very useful!

This is great! Used this in a situation with my daughter. First used the game to help calm her down, then we were able to explore her feelings, and some ways she could make herself feel better.

Amazing new tool for children

This has been an amazing tool for sorting through problems. Given all the problems children are experiencing nowadays (bullying, etc.), this should be a tool used in schools and recommended to parents. Very interactive and easy for children to use.

This game is not for kids! I cant even get past first page, its like "angry birds". if you dont hit all the fish with a snowball ( only limited number of tries) you just keep repeating over and over. my daughter got frustrated as I did and stopped playing.
