McREL Power Walkthrough is a multi-platform, customizable data collection tool that allows users to quickly gather data during short classroom walkthroughs in order to capture key components of instruction.
Following McREL’s training on recognizing research-based instructional strategies, observers use the device to record strategies, student grouping, and other components during 3-5 minute walkthroughs. Though our template is based on the strategies from Classroom Instruction that Works, 2nd edition, schools and districts can customize their template to capture additional data specific to their needs.
After gathering data, users can create a variety of reports to see trends and patterns in instruction at district, school, team, and individual levels. These reports can be used to foster conversations on future goals, professional development needs, and tweaks that can be made in the classroom.
Power Walkthrough 2.0 is a substantial change in experience from the previous application and as such is presented as a separate download.

- New interface with easy access to creating and managing observations
- New history feature to review data from previous observations
- New rubric element
- New online resources and help
- Ability to download any previous observation from the web
- Intelligent sync between offline and online observations
- GPS location tracking for observations
- Use phrase libraries with any note field.
