The audio stream is now encoded in HE-AAC v2. What does that means? Extremely high audio quality with very low bitrate and bandwidth usage (48 kbps). However, it now requieres a little bit of help from the hardware: only the ARMv7 based devices (as of now: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd gen and iPad) running iOS 4 can enjoy it at full stereo quality. All previous devices and OS versions will still be able to decode the stream but at a reduced quality in mono only.
