Love to shoot RAW? Certainly its the way to get the best out of your camera. The downside is that the files are BIG. Why keep those large master files around if the picture itself isnt amongst your best?

If your Library is bloated with RAW files you don’t necessarily need but can’t bring yourself to throw away, RawHide is the compromise you’ve been looking for. RawHide is designed to convert the RAW files you select into high quality JPEG files while preserving your metadata such as comments, ratings, and locations. RawHide will then tag or set the originals rating to reject.

RawHide will also process your Photoshop and TIFF images. In fact, any image format Aperture can handle will receive the same treatment by RawHide.

Benefits
√ Free up valuable space on your drives. Savings may be upwards of 80%. A library of RAW files taking upwards of 1GB would be reduced to around 200MB of high quality original size JPEGs.

Features
√ RawHide your adjusted RAW images or discard the changes and archive the original version.
√ Scale the image down from the original size to save even more space.
√ Adjust the new images compression setting between very high to almost no compression.
√ Tag, Trash, and/or reject the original.
√ A large range of image formats supported.
√ RawHide processed images are placed in the same project as the original.
√ Place converted images in the same albums the originals were in.
√ Extract the JPEGs and or RAWs from Apertures RAW+JPEG storage.

RawHide For Aperture REQUIRES Aperture 3.0 OR GREATER.

I was not able to use this software as it requires Aperture, a mother program of sorts, to download any RAW files and apparently Aperture is not available on the U.S. iTunes store nor the company’s website. Waste of time…

G-E-N-I-A-L

Dieses Tool ist das BESTE, was ich bisher im Appstore gekauft habe. Genau diese Anwendung suche ich seit 5 Jahren ungelogen. Tut was es soll in Perfektion, schön einfach zu bedienen, ein Traum einfach. Danke!

Not sure what this app is actually doing

Is there somehwere that one can find a user manual? I see that it is processing and tells me that the process is complete and how much the RAW file was and how much the new JPEG file is, but I have no idea where this converted down JPEG file resides. I have the same original RAW image in place with an added keyword stating "RawHide Original". I see no evidence of the supposed "RawHide Processed" tagged JPEG that, according to the descripion of the apps functions, is supposed to populate in the same project as the original. Not only is it not in the project it is nowhere to be found in my Aperture library.

Exactly What I Needed

I have been searching for something like this and was very happy to find it. My Aperture library is loaded with RAW versions of things I should have used a point and shoot to take, and I wasnt sure how to slim the library size without deleting pictures. With RawHide, you select the pictures you want to downgrade, and it will create jpegs and mark the originals as Rejected. Then its up to you to delete the RAWs if you feel good about it. I did find one thing lacking. It doesnt seem to preserve the camera and lens info, which is useful to me. Maybe this is debatable because the jpeg version wasnt taken with a camera, but rather created with RawHide. I would prefer the camera info remain intact if possible. It does preserve other things though like aperture, ISO, shutter speed, and focal length. Id recommed this app to anyone who was overly ambitious with their DSLR and shot EVERYTHING in RAW. Its a very easy way to decrease the size of your library.

Easy, Quick & Just what I needed.

This app is lean, powerful & easy to use. After importing & rating RAW files, I reject and trash obviously useless shots. This leaves me with plenty of low or unrated rated images Ill likely never use for professional reasons but would like to keep for future reference. These take up a lot of space on my HD. With Rawhide Im slimming those low rated RAWs down to "best quality" Jpgs & trashing the RAWs. All the related image info travels over to the new Jpg. Quality of the new Jpgs is surprisingly good. The app does exactly what I want it to do without tempting me with a lot of extranious options. Hope it stays that way. Thanks for this little tool. It is making my Aperture experience more enjoyable.

Saved tons of space

App does what it says and saved me dozens of GBs of space on my large Aperture library. Full disclosure, the app crashed on me several times when I first purchased, but when I emailed support I received a reply within hours and a new version with my personal bug fix was in my inbox by morning. These are the types of developers we should support on the App store. I buy many apps in this category, and this developers apps arent the prettiest, but are functional and well-supported. I will buy his apps first when given a choice of other apps that do the same thing. (I have no previous experience with developer and have never met him…. just a satisfied customer who appreciates good support and an entrepreneurial developer who knows win-win).
