All reviews →The must have app for quick fish ID
This is undoubtedly the best app for fish ID. It is well organized with images that are clear and crisp for easy identification. The generic names are provided with obvious professional knowledge of years of experience in the fish biology field. You can not go diving without bringing this app with you. Thanks!
Take this app on your snorkel or SCUBA vacation
I used to take several books on my SCUBA vacations so that I could identify species each day after a dive. Now I will be taking this fabulous app instead. The photos are large enough to make out crucial details. The selection of fish and the short descriptions are helpful. I run the app on both ipod Touch and iPad. On the iPad in 2X view, the photos are just slightly pixelated. Reef Fish of Hawaii is also a favorite of mine. Thank you so much to Indigo Publications for this gift to all of us who love the sea. If you like the Lite version, you will love the full version. It is amazing to have over 400 photos for such a low price. Great value. Great fun.
Great App worth twice the price !
Very useful plus practical. During a dive I always spot a fish or creature which I cant identify, by the time I get home and check my ID books Ive forgotten the colors, marking and differences that distinguish the species, this program is very handy, when I get back to the boat I find and identify the fish species and then put it into "my favorites" in the program. Photos are large and clear to identify species. "Movies" part of program is a cool feature which shows small movie clips of marine fish, mammals, and sea creatures to show your diving and non-diving friends.
Catalog of fish could be better
I love this app! Pictures are excellent and app program is well done. The only reason I took off a star is because the catalog of fish is lacking somewhat. For example, they show a Yellow Tang in one of the videos, but is not listed with the individual fish. Hopefully, they will continue to update with more species, but well worth the current price.
Excellent Fish ID app
What I like most is how the description scrolls under the photo so I am still able to look at the fish & see the distinguishing features that are mentioned. I also appreciate the photos of the juveniles as so many dont look like the adults. I only wish there were more. The photos are a good size on my phone & I have already used it numerous times. It is a great help to be able to get out of the water & be able to search for what I have seen while my memory is fresh. The only thing I dont like is sharing with my dive buddies- get your own! It is well worth the inexpensive cost.
Hire a better designer/progammer
Ive only looked at this for a few minutes, and the content seems good, but interface is impractical. The main page showing the Fish Families should have an alternate view with larger pictures, or the ability to enlarge and then scroll - we need to see more detail with fewer clicks. Once you click on a fish family, we should be able to flip through the different members of that family - not return - click each time to hone in on the particular fish you are trying to ID. This is important to functionality - especially for a $5 app. I am looking forward to an update so I can improve the rating.
Excellant on the spot reference
What a great on the spot reference. Im using this on both my iPHONE and iPAD. The 2X on the iPAD is really only pixelated on the application but the photos are pretty darn clear in 2X. The developer is talking about an iPAD version (which I have no problem spending the extra 5 bucks). In order to view the videos you want to be connected via wifi and not 3G because of the bandwidth requirments. One addition that I would like to see on the Florida version is the addition of Turtles. We have LOTS of Turtles in Florida and they warrent a family. Thanks much to the author ... way to go!
