Do you need to grab assets out of a classic MacOS application or resource fork? If so, then this is the program for YOU. If you wondering what a "resource fork" is, then this is probably not the app you are looking for.

Simply drop an application or resource file onto rezycle and it will extract all of the resources for you and place them into a folder next to the original file. But wait, thats not all! It will not only extract the old stuff for you, but it will also convert it into fabulous modern formats! Have some old snd resources? BANG! Now you have some spiffy new AIFF files! Old icons and cursors? BANG! Transformed into lovely png files! As a special bonus, anything rezycle cant convert will be exported as binary files for you to attack with your favorite hex editor!

Rezycle currently decodes the following resource types: ICN#, icl8, icl4, ics#, ics8, ics4, icm#, icm8, icm4, ICON, SICN, cicn, icns, TEXT, STR, STR#, PICT, clut, pltt, CURS and crsr. All others are extracted as individual binary files.

If you find that rezycle doesnt convert a resource type that you need or are having issues with a conversion, please take the time to hit the support button to the right and get in touch with me via the contact form on my website. THANKS!

Works great

I used this to extract the resources for a really old game I was writing when I was a kid in 1995 that I want to turn into an iOS App. I had no idea how to get at the resources since ResEdit is super-obsolete, but rezycle automatically extracted all the PICT and icon resources (and others resources that I didnt care about) and converted into .pngs. It was a simple drag-and-drop!

Cant get through a resource file without crashing.

Version 1.2 was actually better; it failed at generating decent icns and .strings files, but at least it didnt crash.

Useful, could use some improvement though

Im so glad this exists! Now I finally have something to do with all those Classic MacOS applications I have sitting around. Its almost kind of addictive looking through all the stuff they had hidden inside them. That being said though, I have some suggestions for how it could be improved: • Needs to be able to accept input from folders recursively. I want to be able to drop a folder full of .rsrc files onto this and have it process each of those files in turn. • Needs more options for controlling the output. Sure, "new" formats like .png are nice, but what if we want the actual original .pict files? • Theres a crashing bug that occurs consistently when it hits video resources. Something like "Required file handler not found" or something like that • It should work both ways. That is, once I de-rez a resource file and change around some of its contents, I should then be able to use this application to put the .rsrc bundle back together again.

Great support from the developer

This is awesome. It is definitely one of the easiest tools to use, and well worth the money for the time it saved me. I needed to extract text and sounds and graphics from a very old Mac game, Spaceward Ho! and we were able to use this to save a ton of time. When extracting the French language version, we found there were errors. I contacted the developer and they immediately responded and then provided a quick fix. Thanks so much!

Awesome, does exactly what I need

This tool is highly useful for what it does - extracting resources. Particularly good for rescuing data from Mac OS 9-era applications, if you have any of those lying around. Though it cant handle everything, what it does handle it does a darn good job of converting to modern formats.

Does What I Needed

Did exactly what I needed: to extract the resources from an ol application. So it doesn’t have a flashy UI .. who cares? The app works.

Does exactly what it promises

Little apps like this are the reason I wish I searched the App Store before wasting an hour looking for utilities like this online. My time is worth heck of a lot more than $5 per hour!
