Description

Developed in 1974 at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, RPYLD was the first growth and yield computer program for Lake States red pine. There have been several other growth and yield programs since then, with the most recent being “Red Pine”, available at the Mac App Store. In comparison to the advanced app Red Pine, RPYLD is primitive at best. However, it is still very useful for those who want a ‘simple to use’ model. Enter the basic stand data of starting age, basal area, trees per acre, rotation age and site index. Intermediate thinnings can be simulated by entering the age of the thinning, residual basal area and diameter change. Click on the ‘Compute Simulation’ pushbutton and the stand simulation will be computed and displayed. Three sample datasets are provided. This program can be extremely useful to non-industrial landowners who want to maximize the growth and health of their red pine forests.
