Runway is an elegant UML Design app for Mac OS X, that is both simple and powerful. Runway gives you all of the most important features you need in a diagramming and vector design tool, as well as an easy-to-use Class Diagram tool without all the extra cruft, at an affordable price. Runway is great for Programmers and Web Designers looking for a simple tool for rapidly designing flowcharts, laying out wireframes, or visualizing model relationships without getting lost in a sea of confusing extraneous and confusing features. Runway has support for "connected" lines. When resizing lines, the lines magnetically snap to other shapes. Then, as you drag the connected shape around the canvas, the connected lines adjust themselves as well. Runway offers "smart" paths which can be used for connecting boxes and shapes with smooth, curvy lines without requiring lots of fussy fiddling. Runway also includes a powerful Bézier Path tool for creating vector graphics of nearly any shape or description. Runway is a swell vector graphics tool for designing icons and other graphics using bézier paths. Runway lets you get to work quickly by giving you just the important tools you need in a slick, single-window, thoroughly Mac-native UI. Runway also includes full support for modern Mac OS X features like Quick Look, Full-Screen Mode, Autosave, and Version Browsing. Das Programm ist so vielseitig, ich erstelle mittlerweile sogar meine Logos damit. Ist jeden Cent wert und wird sehr gerne weiterempfohlen! Wünschenswert wäre noch eine automatische Klassengenerierung aus Java Dateien.

Eigentlich gut

Ich finde es hinderlich, dass die Arbeitsfläche nicht der gewählten Seitenorientierung entspricht. Man verschwendet automatisch Platz im Ausdruck. Bei größeren Modellen ist es eben keine Lösung, mehrere Blätter zu nehmen, sondern die Arbeitsfläche entsprechend zu vergrößern. Völlig egal, ob ich einen A3-Drucker habe, den zusätzlichen Platz kann ich mit der festgestellten Arbeitsfläche nicht nutzen. Da werden nur die vorhandenen Elemente einfach größer. Viel Potential nach oben, auch was das Angebot an Arbeitselementen betrifft.

Sehr schwache Performance

Eigentlich kein schlechtes App doch leider ist die Performace Mangelhaft. Schon ab einer Leinwand von 3000*3000 hackt das App gewaltig. Bei größeren Projekten ist solch ein Platz jedoch nötig.

It is not an UML editor with thousand features and rich stencils. But it is powerful graphical tool for editing diagrams:) - Because of its simplicity. Screencasts (on the support site) explain how to use the Bezier Path tool. P.S. It there an option to keep text horizontal when share is rotated?

I attempted to use this to create UML diagrams. Dragging links between components requires placing lines and manually attaching each end to the proper location. Changing the line style of class boxes doesn’t work. Bummer.

Good UML tools are really hard to find. You either have to run a high power design tool and figure out the fastest way to communicate your model or your stuck with clunky outdated products. Runway does a great job at focusing on the job to be done; generating great looking UML that effectively communicates your vision. Keep up the great work folks!
