Enormous strides have been made in streamlining the care of patients with HIV/AIDS, including the development of convenient medication regimens which are helping people with the virus live longer than ever before. SCALE HIV™ was developed by The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to familiarize general practitioners and clinicians with the latest CDC HIV screening and counseling guidelines and to help them link their patients to appropriate care promptly. This feature enables clinicians to identify and promptly refer patients to local HIV care-providers, simply by inputting a zip code and other customizable fields including provider name, services, and payment types. Studies have shown that delayed establishment of care following HIV diagnosis is common and is associated with worse long-term outcomes. We hope that by offering patient-customized, point-of-care access to HIV specialists, clinicians will be able to move their patients to care sooner and with better outcomes.
