ScreenFlow 5 at Mac App Store analyse

Ein sehr gelungenes Update. Da ich von ScreenFlow 3 komme fühlt sich diese Version noch um einiges besser an. Die Aufnahmen sind flüssig, die Qualität wie immer auf hohem Niveau und der Einstiegs-Preis am ersten Tag kam mir auch gelegen. Außerdem ist die iOS (8)-Aufnahmefunktion ein tolles Feature. Im Großen und Ganzen kann ich diesen Kauf auf jeden Fall empfehlen.

Komme von ScreenFlow 3 und der 24h Aktionspreis kam perfekt für mich. Aber auch wer den Aktionspreis verpasst hat, bekommt für sein Geld ein tolles Produkt. Handling der Software ist super und nach einer kurzen Zeit absolut intuitiv auch für komplexere Darstellungen die man erstellen möchte. Für mich mit den sehr guten Erfahrungen von ScreenFlow 3 auf 5 eine gute Entscheidung.

Wollte damit von der Hochzeits DVD Szenen aufnehmen und bearbeiten, jedoch graut / schwärzt ScreenFlow den Inhalt einer DvD komplett aus…. Muss nun alles mit VLC Player abspielen um es zu recorden. Screenflow arbeitet ausserdem NICHT mit der Soundkarte Saffire Fokusrite 40 Pro, die Audioaufnahmen hören sich wie kratziges Rauschen an. Für mich als Logic User ist das sehr schade. Somit nur zwei Sterne und für mich kaum zu gebrauchen.

Und wieder lässt eine Firma eine beta Version seiner Software auf die Kunden los. Als zufriedener Besitzer von Screenflow 2, 3 und 4 habe ich mir auch direkt Screenflow 5 angeschafft. DIes war jedoch ein sehr großer Fehler. Mein iMac Display wird nur noch mit 1920x1080, anstelle von 2560x1440 erkannt. Jede manuelle Anpassung der richtigen Aufnahmegröße wird verweigert. Ärgerlicher ist auch, dass sich Screenflow 5 gerne mal nach >20 min. Aufnahmezeit verabschiedet und die aktuellen Aufnahmen weg sind (auch nicht mehr als temporäre Datei verfügbar) und erneut erstellt werden müssen. Und dies auf mehreren Systemen mit aktueller Hardware. Das darf nicht passieren. Übertroffen werden die Abstürze noch durch Langzeitlauffehler die mittlerweile Regelmäßig auftauchen und wobei Screenflow komplett neu installiert werden muss um den Fehler zu beheben. Zudem werden Kunden bewusst mit dem Preis übers Ohr gehauen, wobei bei der Telestream Store Version in der ersten Tagen der Veröffentlichung, das Upgrade teurer war als die App Store Vollversion. In der Newsletter wurde allerdings nur die teurere Telestream Store Version erwähnt. Zudem ist der angepriesene “Vorteil” der Telestream Store Version auch ein Witz. Die Telestream Version darf nur auf 1 Computer installiert werden, während die App Store Variante auf jedem Mac installiert werden darf. Und diese limitierte Freischaltung soll besser sein? Wer es glaubt.

Using this on a Macbook 15 Retina with Yosemite and Screenflow freezes on a regular basis. More often, the video display will not resemble the actual video or transitions that are playing, which makes it unusable to me. This was already the case with Screenflow 4, it seems this hasn’t been fixed. I’ve been looking at Final Cut Pro since, which works fine but is a bit fiddly and lacks a few great features that Screenflow does have (snapping to guidelines in the video display). Screenflow 5 does have great features and funcitonality, offers ease of use, but this is all worthless, since you don’t feel safe in any project. It will act weirdly in every project I do. The videos I’m editing are in the Apple Pro Res format, so this shouldn’t be the issue. I’d recommend, until this software is stable and you’re looking for a bit of video editing functionality, look another way. And, until then, 1 out of 5.

In general, this app works mostly well except for a few error messages, when adjusting the font size for instance. However, the biggest issue is, that it writs a .mov file that doesn’t conform to the AppSTore Preview guideline. It looks as the video has much more FPS even though I selected 30 FPS in the export settings. The file is way larger as it needs to be. Once converted with Final Cut Pro (which I wanted to prevent to use due to it’s odd UI) the resulting file was about 10 times smaller and worked with the AppStore. I will contact the developers and will keep this review updated. UPDATE: The developers were very responsive and quick. However, even though they claim that the format is correct (they use the ProRes profile which is indeed one Apple claims to accept) Apple DOES NOT accept the Preview Movie generated by this app. Second, even if Apple would accept it, it is way too big. A 30 second movie will always be larger than the possible 500 MB if made for an iPad of iPhone 6 plus. So from this point, it is not possible with this app to generate Preview Movies. Another issue just arose: I started maintaining the project files of the app on my Windows Server share. Once I did this, the app claims that I don’t have sufficient access rights, which is wrong. All my other files and even the big Final Cut project directories are on the same server and all can be opened and stored from my Macs without a problem. I did try SMB and CIFS just in case - without any difference. So I have to copy down the project files to the local HD in order to maintain them and then copy them back in order to get it working. So I think this app needs some major improvemends and testing before it can be used. Definitely something I expected for this (too) high price.

Bei mir bricht das Programm immer mit einer Fehlermeldung ab. Schade, denn gerade deswegen habe ich das Programm gekauft.
