Description
Is your pediatric practice new to screening families for maternal depression, child development, and social determinants of health? Learn techniques to jump start conversations about these important topics.
Screening Time: Tuning into the Needs of Families™ is a role-play simulation where you take the role of a pediatric healthcare professional and engage in a series of practice conversations with a virtual family at their childs 2-month, 24-month and 36-month well child visits. Through these scenarios, you will practice broaching the subject of a positive screening for:
Maternal depression
Developmental concerns
Food insecurity
Then you will follow through with an effective, family-centered discussion about how to address the issue that was raised.
Using techniques drawn from Motivational Interviewing (MI), you will practice shared decision-making with families by asking open-ended questions, reflecting their concerns, showing empathy, and respectfully sharing information. By exploring the ways that different screenings reveal a more comprehensive picture of a childs family environment and development, you will see the benefit that these screenings can provide in your own practice.
* FEATURES
- Learn how to use screenings to identify and discuss concerns with families about important developmental topics.
- Engage in a series of simulated role-play conversations with fully animated parents and their child, while receiving personalized feedback from a virtual coach
- Comes with a pocket guide with summaries and examples for quick reference on all conversation techniques.
Screening Time: Tuning into the Needs of Families™ was developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics Screening Technical Assistance and Resource Center™ and Kognito™ as part of the American Academy of Pediatrics Screening in Practices Initiative.
