The best personal finance software
An outstanding financial recording/reporting program
I have been using SEE finance for several years, after Intuit dropped support for Quicken for Mac (they have since somewhat reinstated support in the form of Quicken Essentials and more recently a "full" version of Quicken. Intuits decision resulted in a sudden surge of fiancial programs - Ive bought and tried at least 3 and tried Quicken Essentials. Somewhat to my surprise, SEE Finance was just easier to use than any of them, although it wasnt as pretty as some. More than anything else, I want to be able to find transactions quickly and be able to generate reports quickly and on the fly - How much did I spend with XXX in 2014? How does what I spent in 2014 Jan-Jul compare with what I spent in 2015 Jan - Jul? What are all my expenses with the memo "sales tax to be paid" for this year to-date All these are incredibly easy, as the software uses Apples programming guidlines for tables that enables this sort of powerful filtering in a highly disciplined fashion. Investment reporting is not as full featured - but it is very easy to apply a filter to look at all transactions for "AAPL" for example and get a full picture of what is going on. It would be nice to have things like an Internal Rate of Return, but I rather feel that if you cant calculate this yourself, you are better leaving this alone - not all software seems to do this correctly! Exporting is a breeze, as is importing from banks etc using QFX and other types of files. See Finance is more manual than some of the other programs but it has never left me in the "OMG, what a mess, Ill just start from scratch" state that they have usually left me in, either. Transfer transactions are not linked, so if you change one side, you have to manually change the other - this bothers some, but if you know its going to be the case, it is easy to allow for. In all, Im extremely happy, particularly around tax time when Im preparing a schedule C! It "just works"
Most Impressive
I’ve been using the beta version of this app for the past four years. The developers really take their time to get things right. The app is rock solid, and fully featured. It’s the only one that was able to fully replace Quicken for me, with full accounting, reporting, and most importantly able to maintain full brokerage account records on stocks and options.
Superb
This is to my taste the best Mac Finance application. I have been using it since 2013 and it is really very flexible, fun to use and also colorful which is nice when you have to deal with dull numbers in black and white. My compliment guys…
Does Almost Everything I need it to
I’ve been using and recommending the beta version for several years. I transitioned from another financial package that is more industry standard. Once I transitioned, I have never had a reason to look at the newer releases of other packages. Check whether your financial institution will allow downloads via direct connect. Neither of my credit unions offer that feature, so ensuring the transaction register is correct takes a bit of work. Any question I have asked of support thru the website are answered quickly and accurately. The team takes the time to answer my specific question, and think thru what problem I am really trying to solve. In cases when I’ve asked about a feature that was not available, the response has always just stated that fact. They have not tried to dance around the request, or say yes, but really mean no. This allows me to set my expectations accurately.
Best Mac personal finance app for me
I started using See Finance over four years ago - after Quicken abandonded Mac users. This proved to be exactly what I needed for tracking investments and general finance. It imported my data better than all other Mac finance apps at the time - and I think I tried them all. It is able to download from all my financial institutions, and is very stable. I’ve gone back and tried the new Quicken 2015 for Mac and although not bad (I would have stayed with Quicken if they had this version 4 years ago), I like See Finance better. It is great for viewing your entire portfolio at a glance. I’m hoping that now that See Finance is App store compatible with sandboxing, we’ll start to see some feature enhancements. My suggestions are: 1) ROI% calculation column in the Portfolio view (this is the one feature I still miss from Quicken 2007) 2) Investment allocation breakdown 3) Associated IOS app with portfolio tracking
Wonderful app that does what i need it to
perfect app, easy to use and does what it says it does. As with all apps, make sure your financial institution allows direct downloads, some charge for this service. Regardless, would buy again and again…and i used other programs for years. No More.
