Don’t judge a tree by its bark; get to know our natural neighbors with TreeID.

Reached #12 in Canada!

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

TreeID was created in MEDL Mobile’s App Incubator. The idea was submitted by Jason Siniscalchi, a PhD in Forest Resource Science from Connecticut who had done his graduate studies work at West Virginia University in Forest Management.

He wanted a way to share his research and interest in tree identification with the world for all nature enthusiasts. This app will also be helpful for allergy sufferers who can now easily identify the plants they are allergic to.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

TreeID allows the user to identify almost any tree in Northern America based on its:
• Name
• Scientific name
• Physical attributes (bark, leaf and fruit)
• Geographic location

-----------------------------------------

FOREST SCIENCE MADE EASY
Because many of us using the app may not know the proper name for identifying particular types of leaves or fruit, the app will walk the user through the various methods of tree identification. The app contains thousands of images, illustrations and notations. Yet with only a few clicks, the user should be able to identify any tree in the forest!

NEWEST FEATURES
• Improved tree identification functionality
• More than a hundred new trees
• Fifty “Fall Foliage” trees with Autumn colors

-----------------------------------------

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE UPDATING
TreeID has an extensive database of trees built right into the app. This way, it’s available to you at all times so you don’t have to worry about having no reception while trying to identify a tree.

Since our tree database is so large, this update does take a little bit of time to download. We recommend that you start your update while accessing a reliable internet connection, and make sure that you have roughly an hour of free time to stay connected before starting your download.

Dont work ob iPod

Since last update no work on iPod. Not good.

Good but...

Good app but it keeps crashing. They need to fix that and also add more clear pictures (and more pics period).

Needs work!

I could accept this app as a light (ie free version), but it is not worth the price as it now stands. Some glaring omissions: No photos of the actual trees (although cartoon like sketches provided in other tree apps are thankfully lacking as well). The photos provided of fruit and leaves are oftem morphed to fit into the photo frame and shot from different angles making idenification difficult. The "Search by Characteristics" is pretty basic and is even missing a "leaf type" selection. You cannot search by latin name nor alternative names. Some trees are missing eg the Jack Pine. Tree descriptions are pretty sketchy. You cannot scroll through leaf, bark or fruit photos. You have to go back to the main menu to see individual photos one at a time. All this said, TreeID is on the right track but needs a lot more work before deserving a shellout of $3.99.

Not ready for prime time

Good idea but not very useful. The interface is awkward, the images are mostly distorted. A more intuitive interface and search would help.

Very good update

Thank you

Tree ID

Awesome! Love the various ways of narrowing the search parameters. Im not an arborist, nor do I particularly need to know the information, but I really enjoyed using this app. I cant tell if it needs a WiFi connection or not to operate. If all the info is in hand, or on Phone as it were, this is a truly useful tool in the field, or on the mountain, or in the forest....
