TubeTab is a menubar app that makes your YouTube watching experience more slick and native to your Mac. Bring up the TubeTab window from the menu bar button, search for any video, and click to play inside the app. Now you can even drag and drop a video URL to TubeTab app or menu bar icon and it will play it for you right away! You can resize the window, keep it on top, or just make it play your music and let it hide back while you are working. pas mal

Works fine, but doesn’t address current issues with Youtube

Yes this plays Youtube from the menu bar, but using this app is less efficient than just using Youtube within a browser. It doesn’t allow to view comments while watching, and if I want to see a list of other videos, I have to toggle screens — painful, yes, very much so.
