In spite of the latest, greatest power meters and GPS units, tried-and-true calculations like gear inches, metres of development, cadence at speed, and speed at cadence remain invaluable for cyclists of all levels. Whether upgrading a bike, deciding if a new one fits your needs, building a fixie, or determining if its worth switching to that other chainring in the toolbox before a day in the high mountains, this data will help. A note about the calculations: VeloCalc includes common measurements for road tires, along with a wider array of tooth counts than one would ever likely need, from enthusiast riders to serious racers. The calculations are the result of a huge amount of trial and error to get the best numbers presented in the simplest way. VeloCalc was conceived, developed, and designed by Christopher Mullen, an avid cyclist and mobile developer. Any questions or comments are welcome and appreciated. VeloCalc is just what the doctor ordered!

I was in the middle of building a fixed gear bike and exchanging chain rings from my old road bike when I thought there might be and app for that. Sure enough, this little app does it all. 5 stars.

Im a user of What to Wear Cycling (also by this developer), and I loved that, so I gave this a try. Theres some really interesting information for even a casual cyclist. Plugging in my information to figure out cadence at speed has been very helpful. Great for building a fixie as well, which Im just beginning. As a side note, the developer is super helpful, friendly, and responsive--had a question about the app, and got a response right away. Same for the What to Wear Cycling app, too. How often is that the case in the app store?? Highly recommended!
