Internet access is not required to use the app, just to download the periodic updates when youre within range. The app also gives you Sunrise/Sunset times for any date your planning for. Each version of the app will get you access to 1 year of updates. At the end of the year your data will NOT disappear. So if you purchase the 2013 version of the app then on 01/01/2014 your app will stop downloading updates but you will still see all published dates in 2013.
