Thank u so much 4 this great app!!!
The Key to Success
Grit and tenacity predict school success more than any test grade. Acquire the skills to make you a tenacious student with WOOP-a research-driven app that simplifies the secrets of perseverance and makes them available to anyone in an easy, step-by-step process that will help you achieve your goals-and dreams.
Useful app!
I use this app often to make and fulfill wishes I have related to my work, my grad school classes, and my personal life. The steps of the WOOP strategy are pretty straightforward and the app does a nice job of walking you through each one and making sure you spend enough time imagining your best outcome and main obstacle. I had the advantage of learning the strategy directly from the app developer, Gabrielle Oettingen, so I cannot speak to how it is to use for the uninitiated. That being said if you are interested in learning more about WOOP, google her name and you can read the published research behind the strategy on her website. WOOP has effectively helped me overcome grad school work procrastination and certain relationship issues. It works for many things. As a special education teacher I also think it has relevant applications with students as a Self-regulated Strategy Development (SRSD). Because there is a standard procedure, all kids and adults can learn to use it and it might help motivate them to get important things done-especially if they feel stressed or unsure. Four stars because the app is fun to use. Only issue is that sometimes WOOPs dont save for some reason, though it could be a mobile device issue.
Great concept, puzzling design choice
The app itself is very simply designed with a graphical look that would benefit from a professional graphic designers input. But the look isnt whats important; the substance is what makes the app. This app is based on the authors book Rethinking Positive Thinking. It is an excellent book, laying out the results of 20 years worth of research into visualization, dreaming, optimism, and realism. This app leads you through the contrastive visualization that had been shown to be most effective in motivating people to reach their goals. I would use this app a couple of times a day--I find that exercises like WOOP benefit from having something outside myself walk me through the process--except I cant. The app requires an active internet connection just to launch it. I am often traveling by subway or in places with no internet access, and rather than lead me through the process offline, the app simply refuses to launch. If you want results and dont mind requiring an Internet connection, grab this app. I would love to see a version that operates offline with better graphics, however.
