Ok
Ruined.
May 25, 2016 He broke it. Wow. What happened. I love change. Progress is awesome. But this update turned a concise and beautiful utility into the most annoying and in-the-way piece of crap that can be associated with WorkFlowy. What have you done dude? Now there’s an app icon, get this, ALWAYS-ON-TOP! ALWAYS VISIBLE AND NOT REMOVEABLE!!, that hovers around your screen while you try to work in other apps. The shortcut key will open the app, but will not make it go away as in previous versions. If you click anything that opens the window there is no way to dismiss it without clicking a tiny little (x) in the corner. Re-clicking the in-your-face-icon or menu bar or the desktop will do nothing; they are functionless once active. There are no options to fix the above. I can’t turn off that stupid icon? The app no longer pops out of the menu bar but floats? Fine, but when you make drastic changes like this, shouldn’t you put options for the user to revert back to what was working for them? I’m going to be blunt Kaunteya, This is a truly botched update of a great app. I hope this criticism encourages you to refine the implementation of a great idea. I’m so disappointed because I was using this EVERY day. Now I’ve uninstalled it. Do not buy this until he’s had time to experiment on the public with his new, untested ideas. ==================== Old review from previous version: Nice execution. But just nice. Here’s some problems: This should offer manual resizing of window via corner-dragging instead of the convoluted custom sizing interface in preferences. Right-clicking on the menu icon should cause a menu for quit and prefs. Bug: Trying to assign a shortcut key using CMD+Ctrl+Alt throws up a message box before you can even choose a letter, yelling at you about Ctrl-A being reserved. Who’s hitting A? Not me…. Thats it. Anyway, money well spent. Good job, but spend a few more hours making it great.
BORKED
I guess there’s no beta testing before updates go live, but this is totally broken. The design is obnoxious with the floating icon you can’t remove (and it’s only on one desktop, so I have to scroll back to the desktop it’s on to open my notes) and the redundant icon in the task bar isn’t doing anything anymore but taking up space. Sometimes it won’t reopen (certainly not by clicking the taskbar icon) until I relaunch the app. Pretty odd design overall, but there should be a better QA process and a small group of testers who could’ve prevented this from going to production in this condition. I’ll give it a few weeks and if there’s no update to address it, I’ll start looking for an alternative.
Better than the web app
The developer attempted to try something new and it didn’t quite work out so he reversed it which is great because this app is amazing for people who use workflowy as is. Highly recommended if you use the service!
Version 1.4 Seems to Have Resolved Issues
This newest release, version 1.4, seems to have resolved the issues that the previous version reviewers complained about. The icon is now firmly locked to my top bar and works as I would expect it to.
Good. Out-of-the-way until you need it.
