YodelOh Math Mountain at Mac App Store analyse

My kids have had a great time playing this game. They get invested in it and want to get a good score or move to a new level. This is more than I can say for any other math app weve tried. And the music is catchy too...

Great app to develop those mental math muscles! Starts out easy and progresses in difficulty. Need to pay attention for sheep and other "bonus" points.

Let me say that this game fully deserves five stars, before I make some recommendations that might make the game even better. In general, the game should be a bit more customizable. Players can choose which function (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or all four), but a few more options would be even better: 1) An options to turn the music on/off 2) An option to choose the number of wrong answers before the climber drops off the cliff. As it is now, the game ends after 15 or so wrong answers. This is a good default, but it makes for a fairly long game - 5 minutes or more. if the player could make the game shorter or longer by choosing the number of wrong answers , that might make the game more fun, and also more “shareable” - kids could watch each other play if a game were shorter. 3) An option to determine the speed of the timer. Players have about 3 seconds to answer correctly before a penalty is assessed. Again, this is a good default, but some players might like a bit more time (if working with new arithmetic functions) or less time (to make a more exciting game.) 4) Make the climber a girl, if the player is a girl - and the little obstacles that appear later could be boys if the player is a girl? Just a thought. These suggestions do not imply that the game is anything less than well-made and terrific fun. Great job! We like all the Spinlight apps.

My 8 year old son and I love this game. I would have never imagined him wanting to acually play a math game. He usually answers the math questions while I stay on the lookout for the rams and bonus point targets. This app developer has some other really good apps too.

This game is exactly what I need for my daughter to practice her math skills - engaging, rewarding, and encouraging her to be fast without stressing her out. Except for one problem - the alternate answers are not close to the right answer (5+4 will have answer options of 97, 54, 32, 9, and 80). This makes the game easy to cheat at, and now that my daughter has realized that we can no longer play because it stresses her out to try and not cheat. Please fix this quirk so we can enjoy the game again! Thanks!

The game has it all! Its gorgeous to look at, great responsive action, fun music and does what its suppose to, teach times tables in an engaging way. It reminds me if the old game on The Price is Right. My one caveat is both my children loved it at first but then refused to play it. They found the speed of play stressful and it bothered them to see their yodeler fall off a cliff. So, great game but not for us, wish that it was... :)
