Calm Counter is a visual and audio tool to help people calm down when they are angry or anxious. The app includes a social story about anger, and audio/visual tools for calming down.

**********

The app opens up to a “I need a break screen” that vocalizes “I need a break” when it is tapped. The screen then transitions to a red screen with an angry face and the number ten. With each tap the screen transitions to a calmer face and color. In this way, the app prompts the user to count backwards from ten followed by a deep breath.

The app also includes a simple social story with line drawings about anger. The social story talks about feeling angry and things you can do, like counting to ten, breathing deeply and taking a break, to calm yourself down.

The settings screen allows you to choose from male, female or no vocals for counting back from ten and for reading the social story out loud.

Great!

I just downloaded this and showed it to my ASD kid. He has used it twice to self-calm and its working very well. The social story is a nice touch!

Boss

Not worth the money. Its a nice social story, but really, its not much.

Disappointing

Wow, after purchasing this app just to view it, I was frustrated enough to need a break or help with managing my "anger" (poor choice of words by the way... "upset" or "frustrated" might be better). Not user friendly. No menu to be found...content was too complex for most of my 6 yr old ASD clients.

Simple

This app is too simple for being 3 dollars! Waste of money

Not worth the money

You could write this "app" in Xcode in 10 minutes. For anyone about to purchase this, you open it and see an upset face with text that reads "I need a break" - you tap it and the screen changes to a red angry face with the number 10. You tap and it says 10, then changes to 9, 8, etc and after 1 ends with "take a breath" - a inhale+exhale audio clip, followed by plain text that reads "ALL DONE" As you progress from 10-1 the colours change from red to green and the face slowly changes to a smile. You can change the settings to use a male robotic sounding voice or a female robotic sounding voice or set it to silent. The child will have to tap the screen each time to change to the next page.... Try getting an autistic child to do that during a meltdown and Ill give you 3.99. The only use for this app is in a teaching about anger session but even that statement gives this app too much credit. The time it takes you to find the iPad, start the iPad up if its off, then find and open this application while your child is losing it, could be better spent taking them to a quiet area and giving them a hug. This app would be worth it if it had an auto play function, the ability for parents to record their own voices or the childs (including a trim tool to edit out unwanted recording) a setting that auto plays the calm down routine as soon as you open it, an option to run some soothing music for quiet time afterwards of the parents choice from the iTunes library or presets, and maybe a refund.

Does not work!!!

This app just shuts off as soon as you start using it!

Calm counter

It worked for us, my son paid attention to the social story as well as counting down.
