The content of the magazine is great, but the app is not appropriate for iPhone. The presentation is just medium-res page images, making is necessary to zoom to read anything but headlines, and sometime content is 3/4 or full-page width so its basically impossible to read without zooming and swiping back and forth. On the other hand, viewing one page at a time its impossible to take in some of the beautiful two-page spreads in the magazine. The zooming also coexists with page-turning, so my normal method for zooming on a specific part of an image on iPhone ends up turning the page--so instead I have to zoom, swipe, zoom again. Many of these things are probably fine on iPad. But you presumably still cant see two-page photos.
Great Magazine OK APP
LIVE all the content. Im an avid climber and I work at a climbing gym, and this magazine is super fun and helpful. The app could be formatted to be responsive and fit me screen though. Other magazines do it; I wish climbing did so I didnt always have to zoom in.
Very Good
A good mag, in a very good app.
Good app but improvements needed
I decided to renew my subscription using the ipad app, and so far I havent been disappointed. The extra ipad features like videos etc are really nice, and for the most part articles are well done and look great on the ipad format. My one gripe is that inset text on many images are nearly unreadable due to low resolution, which is a shame on the ipads retina display. I am guessing this is due to flattening of the image and text in photoshop or something like that. Higher res images would definitely be appreciated... Also a companion app for iMac and/or iPhone would be awesome to see sometime in the future.
Love it!
Great app, love the magazine!
Incredibly slow takes forever to get a magazine
App takes forever to download a magazine and this is on 100mbps Internet nothing else running
So cool
Its so cool to see Climbing on the iPad, especially because its not just an exact replica of the print magazine. The extra stuff like the slide shows and topos is really cool, and the photos look great. Would love to see more video!
