Description
iVOR is a trainer for aeronautical navigation. It specifically trains the student pilot in the use of the VOR instrument. VOR, or VHF Omnidirectional Range is an essential part both in avionics and in the flight examinations. A student pilot needs a thorough understanding of the VOR.
iVOR is the ideal trainer for this instrument. It has two modes that help understanding VOR navigation. In the free simulation mode, the student can move the airplane, tune to different VOR stations, and dial in bearings. The simulated instrument will show the effect of position and bearing selection on the needle and on the FR/TO arrow of the instrument.
As the student pilot gets more familiar with the workings of VOR, the application can start a skill test. In the skill test mode, the student will have to perform location estimates by tuning in to the different stations and get bearings from the instrument. The student makes an estimate for the aircraft location. Once estimated, the true position of the aircraft is revealed, and the student will be rated on the accuracy of the estimate.
The controls for iVOR are intuitive. Dialing in a bearing (Omni Bearing Selector - OBS) is a breeze. Just swirl the instrument clockwise or counterclockwise. Moving the airplane is done via swiping on the chart. Tapping a VOR symbol on the chart tunes the VOR instrument in to the corresponding station.
Learning VOR with iVOR is fun. The skill test is a challenging game in its own right. iVOR is a helpful aide for everyone studying for flight exam.
