Description

It cant be denied - kids love the iPhone! So make learning to read fun for your early grade school child! Give a preschooler a head start! Or even give an older child a review! Perfect for : * Kindergarten * First Grade * Second Grade Learn to Read! is a flash card deck of sight words, used in elementary schools across the United States to help children learn the building blocks of reading. Complete with easy-to-read text, voice prompts, and example usages, Learn To Read! is an effective learning tool on a fun medium for children. And on the iPhone, learning is on-hand for whenever the opportunity arises - waiting for food at a restaurant, an appointment at a doctors office, or on a playdate. Learn to Read! comes with complete lists of the five levels of sight words, also known as the Dolch Word List. This is a standard sight word list used throughout American schools. From 50 to 75 percent of all words used in school books, library books, newspapers, and magazines are in the Dolch Basic Sight Vocabulary of 220 words. They are "service words" (pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and verbs) which cannot be learned through the use of pictures and only through sight recognition and memory. Practice makes perfect, so help your child develop their reading skills and excel in school by using Learn to Read! and keep an opportunity to learn ready and waiting in your back pocket. Endorsed and recommended by teachers around the country! "I encourage parents to practice sight words with their children whenever they can with school supplied flash cards, but these tend to get misplaced and opportunities are lost. If a parent has an iPhone, Im almost requiring them to buy Learn To Read so that they have no excuse!" Mrs. DeHart 1st Grade Teacher Kings Glen Elementary School Springfield, VA "I cant emphasize the importance enough of lots of loving practice at home with sight words - these lay the foundation for a lifetime of reading. I recommend anything that helps parents practice more with their kids, and Learn To Read! fits that to a T" Ms. Tisch Kindergarten Teacher Valley Elementary School Beavercreek, OH "This is a brilliant app - it combines the fun of the iPhone with the educational value of learning sight words - definitely edutainment at its best!" Mrs. Roeneke First Grade Teacher American School in Japan Tokyo, Japan

Waste of Money

1.99 for Flash cards? Boring and badly presented. Doesnt use any of the IPhones features to keep it interesting for children.

Horrible

Second2salvation · 15 years ago

This app only reads the first two word of every level then automatical shuts off, wasste of $2 and no use to my child, how ever if it worked it would be great, but unfortunatly it does not work.

Way more educational than Mario on the DS

setasan · 17 years ago

I have a 6-year old who is *supposed* to be learning to read by practicing the standard sight word list handed out by his teacher - but instead, hes playing Mario on the DS. So I looked in the App store and found this app which seemed friendly looking and educational. I bought it, turned it on, and traded him my iPhone for his DS. Lo and behold hes now totally immersed in learning to read while Im beating World 7 on Mario. Good times and education to boot! Kids just love their handheld devices.

HUGE Waste!!

Save your money!! Difficult to work. Buy "Sight Word" app instead-its easier and much better. Please trust me!!!!

EASY FOR KIDS TO OPERATE, might be too tough for adults

I showed the app to my kids, bought it, and they played with it and read along! Perfect fun for $1.

Disappointing

Three minutes and my five year old was bored!

Boring

RVmamma · 17 years ago

Not fun at all. My 4 yr old can sound out the words so I bought it to reinforce that and provide practice to recognize the words on sight. Nothing to engage their attention.
